Progress Report for the month of March, 2012


1.    As part of providing infrastructural facilities, it is stated that upgradation /renovation work of Harvalem Waterfall at Harvalem-Sanquelim is nearing completion and likely to be completed by March, 2012 end. The work of Information Plaza at Patto-Panaji is in progress. Land Acquisition proposal at Bogmalo for providing basic facilities is being submitted to the Collector, North Goa for  initiating  land acquisition proceedings.

2.    Shri Vaman S.S. Shirodkar, Chartered Accountant, Panaji-Goa is being appointed to look after the accounts matters of Institute of Hotel Management Society. In this content, work on the project 2nd Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology at Farmagudi is likely to start soon.
3.    The work of development, deployment, management and operation of a water safety patrol almost throughout the coastline with State of Art facilities in the coastal waters of the State of Goa on turn key basis is in operation through M/S DRISHTI SPECIAL RESPONSE SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED, Dona Paula.

4.    The work of Safety/Security Night Patrol Contract awarded to M/s DRISHTI SPECIAL RESPONSE SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED has been extended for further 12 months i.e. till March 2012.

5.    Contractor are engaged for cleaning and collecting garbage for nine beach stretches, nearby envirn., roads and accesses & Order is issued to the Respective officials posted at  North & South beaches. Officials of Tourist Security Force i.e. North/South for monitoring the work of beach cleaning and to submit the report fortnightly.

6.    “M.V. River Princess”. On 23/01/2012, the Contractor restarted the cutting work of the vessel M.V. “River Princess” and the scrap was offloaded at the designated scrapyard identified at Bainguinim, Old Goa. The weather report/the data on which the weather conditions were unfavorable to carry out the cutting work at Candolim beach stretch w.e.f. 14.03.2011 till date is requested from the Office of Meteorology (Technical Section), Mumbai. Further, as per the directions given in the Monitoring Committee meeting held 12.01.2011 under the Chairmanship  of Addl. Secretary (Revenue), the Department referred the matter to the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard requesting them to assist the Government to carry out the underwater survey of the vessel M.V. “River Princess”. Both the Department i.e. the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard regretted the offer due to no facility/ infrastructure available with them or due to no expertise/resources to carry out the underwater survey of the vessel. Further, this Department requested the Punjab National Bank, Mumbai to extent the validity of the Bank Guarantee amounting to Rs.10,00 crores by another six months that is upto 12.08.2011 as the Guarantee was valid till 13.02.2012. Further, it is also informed that the contractor M/s Arihant Ship Breakers, Mumbai brought to the notice of Ms. Sudha Pillai, Member Secretary, Planning Commission of India, on 09.03.2012 when she inspected the site of the vessel M.V. “River Princess” that 85% of the wreck removal work is completed w.e.f.12.03.2012.

7.    Operations of Confiscation of deck-beds and demolitions of shacks are in process.

8.    As part of promotional activities in overseas markets, Department has participated  at ITB-2012, Berlin held from 7th to 11th March, 2012.

9.    As part of promotional activities in domestic markets, Department has participated at Gujarat Travel Mart, Gujarat, Ahmedabad held from 22nd to 24th February, 2012
