Progress Report for the month of May, 2012

1. The work of Information Plaza at Patto-Panaji is in progress. Similarly,  the work of providing High Mast Light at /near Head Post Office is in progress. While Government has sanction H.M.L. at Kala Academy, Campal.  

2. The work of development, deployment, management and operation of a water safety patrol almost throughout the coastline with State of Art facilities in the coastal waters of the State of Goa on turn key basis is in operation through M/S DRISHTI SPECIAL RESPONSE SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED, Dona Paula.

3. The work of Safety/Security Night Patrol Contract awarded to M/s DRISHTI SPECIAL RESPONSE SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED has been extended for further 12 months i.e. till March 2012.

4. “M.V. River Princess”. On 23/01/2012, the Contractor M/s Arihant Ship Breakers, Mumbai restarted the cutting work of the vessel M.V. “River Princess” and the scrap was offloaded at the designated scrapyard identified at Bainguinim, Old-Goa. The awaited weather report/the data were received from the Meteorological Department w.e.f.23.03.2011 to 04.06.2011 & from 23.01.2012 to 29.02.2012. Further, the Deputy Director General of Meteorology (Technical Section), Mumbai is requested to send the weather report w.e.f.01.03.2012 to 30.04.2012.

Further, the above obtained reports along with a note were send for Government approval for taking the decision on fair weather working days, as the company M/s Arihant Ship Breakers, Mumbai had specified that they still have 156 clear weather working days w.e.f.23.01.2012.

Meanwhile, a letter was received from the contractor M/s Arihant Ship Breakers, Mumbai stating that 97% of the work has been completed within 78 fair weather working days.

Further a letter dated 18.05.2012 was received from Dr. Baban Ingole, Chief Scientist, Scientist G, National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, a Member of the Monitoring Committee regarding Monitoring   the cutting  and removal of vessel parts from M.V. “River Princess” wherein he has recommended M/s Vishal Underwater Services, MIF II, Plot No.94, Sector-3, MVP Colony, Vishakhapatanam (AP), Pin.530017; Phone No. 0891-2565352 to conduct the underwater survey of the vessel at Candolim and also suggested issuing  necessary Notification indicating , “Underwater survey of the vessel is yet to be conducted of the vessel and hence public should avoid / refrain from visiting / swimming in the vicinity of the vessel.  

In connection to the above letter, a letter is already issued to the Captain of Ports requesting them to issue Notification to avoid any untoward incidents.

5. Confiscation of deck-beds and demolitions of illegal shacks on the beaches in the State is in process.

6. As part of promotional activities in overseas markets, Department has participated  at MITT-2012 held from 21st to 24th March, 2012 at Moscow, Russia  & also participated at Indian Crafts Festival in Kathmandu, Nepal held from 27th April to 2nd May 2012.


7. As part of promotional activities in domestic markets, Department has participated at India International Travel Exhibition, Raipur held from 23rd to 25th March, 2012 at Raipur.

9. Quite a number of tourists domestic as well as foreign continued to visit the State during the month of May, 2012.
