Progress Report for the month of July, 2012

  1. The work of Information Plaza at Patto-Panaji is in progress.(about 36% of the work is completed)

  1. There were illegal Constructions/ Structures/Kiosks/Stalls erected alongside the road leading to Shree Manguesh Devasthan in the land belonging to Department of Tourism under survey No.45/2 and 25 (part) in Village Priol, Taluka, Ponda. on 14.06.2012 demolition of these illegal structures have been carried out with the help of demolition squad.

  1. Government has administratively approved, repair and renovation of existing toilets and changing rooms at Calangute.

  1. It is proposed to construct toilet complexes at Candolim beach and Baga beach in which respect NOC from CRZ is sought.

  1. The work of development, deployment, management and operation of a water safety patrol almost throughout the coastline with State of Art facilities in the coastal waters of the State of Goa on turn key basis is in operation through M/s. DRISHTI SPECIAL RESPONSE SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED, Dona Paula.

  1. The work of Safety/Security Night Patrol Contract awarded do M/s. DRISHTI SPECIAL RESPONSE SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED has been extended till September 2012.

  1. Department has invited fresh Tenders for Beach Cleaning for the period of 1st August, 2011 to 31st July, 2012 and accepted the tenders by selecting the lowest bidders for 10 beach stretches. The approval of the Government has been obtained and accordingly commencement letter are issued for 9 beach stretches for the work of cleaning the beach areas, nearby envirn., roads and accesses through the beach by removal of organic and inorganic wastes, including transportation, disposal and maintain cleanliness on the beaches throughout the day from December, 2011 to November, 2012. An order is issued to the Respective Information Assistants and Tourist Security Force i.e. North/South for monitoring the work of beach cleaning and to submit the report fortnightly. A team is also formed under the said order to visit the beaches randomly consisting of DDA, ATO(R) and dealing hand. As per the Order, inspections are carried out and reports are placed accordingly.

The services of the Beach Cleaning Contractor for the beach stretch N-5 Miramar-Caranzalem has been terminated by this Department and the beach cleaning contract for the above stretch has been handed over to Corporation of the City of Panaji inorder to maintain the cleanliness of the beaches w.e.f. 01.06.2012.

  1. M.V. River Princess”. On 24.05.2012, a letter was received from the Contractor M/s Arihant Ship Breakers, Mumbai stating that the project of removal M.V. River Princess” grounded at Candolim beach has been completed as on 18th May 2012.

As per the condition of Agreement executed between the Government and the Contractor M/s Arihant Ship Breakers, Mumbai, Government appointed M/s New Horizon Surveys (I) Pvt. Ltd., Navi Mumbai to conduct the underwater survey of the vessel and accordingly M/s. New Horizon, Mumbai carried out Side Scan Sonar Survey and Sub-surface profiling and diving operation at Candolim on 01.06.2012. On receiving the survey report from M/s. New Horizon Survey, Mumbai the survey report and the soft copy of the said report were forwarded to Dr.AK Chaubey, Scientist “G” Institute of Hydrographic, (NIO) Dona Paula and Cdr. R. M. Thomas, National Institute of Hydrographic, (NH) Vasco-Da-Gama for their perusal and confirmation. Their confirmation is awaited. On receiving the data, it will be sent to the National Hydrographic Survey at Dehradun, for interpretation and analysis.

  1. Refund of Security deposit towards temporary shacks on beaches is in process.

  1. Formulation of Shack Policy for setting up of temporary shacks on beaches for Tourist Season 2012-13 is in progress.
