Progress Report for the month of November, 2012


1. Government has administratively approved (1) upgradation/renovation of illumination system alongside the road from ‘O Coqueiro’ Porvorim to Saligao Church, Saligao, (2) High Mast Light at Jogger Park Altinho & (3) High Mast Light at Ribandar, Patto, Panaji.


2. Government has administratively approved and financially sanction the work of beautification around Bahusaheb Bandodkar Statue at Calangute, Bardez-Goa. The work is in progress.


3. The work of Information Plaza at Patto is in progress and Government is considering additional two floors as the FAR in Patto, Panaji area has since been increased. The work of renovation/upgradation/ construction of existing jetty at Patto as since begin.


4. The work of development, deployment, management, and operation of a water safety patrol almost throughout the coastline with State of Art facilities in the coastal waters of the State of Goa on turn key basis is in operation through M/S DRISHTI SPECIAL RESPONSE SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED, Dona Paula.


5. Patrolling on the beaches is being carried out by the IRB Police personnel deployed on the beaches of Goa.


6. Since the beach cleaning contract was valid only upto 31st July 2012, the Department extended the said contract for further period of 3 months (i.e. upto 31st October 2012). After obtaining administrative approval, the file was submitted to the Government for obtaining Expenditure sanction., Upon which the Finance Department proposed to further extend the contracts of Beach cleaning till December 2012. Accordingly, the Department extended the said contract upto December 2012.


7. “M. V. River Princess”:

On 27/10/2012, a letter was received from the Principle Director for Chief Hydrographer, National Hydrographic Office, Dehradun regarding verification and confirmation of removal of the vessel M. V. “River Princess” in pursuance to this Office letter No. 7/8(25)(R.P)/12-13/DT/1597 dated 25/09/2012, wherein the Principle Director had stated / submitted as under.

(i) The bathymetric data on a scale of 1:500 has been examined and found satisfactory considering the sea conditions which existed at the time of the survey. The side scan data is also satisfactory considering the available depth and prevailing sea conditions. No large object has been detected.

(ii) His office has no expertise to examine Sub-bottom profiler data and the comments on the same may be sought from NIO Goa.

The Department had fixed a magnetometer operation on 02.06.2012, to detect metal below the surface of the seabed; however, the experts of NIO, Dona-Paula were not able to complete the survey in full due to rough weather conditions. Since the experts of NIO were unable to complete the Magnetometery Survey, on 02.06.2012, the Department requested the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Dona Paula for a second time to carry out the Magnetometry at ‘River Princess’ wreck site, Candolim and accordingly Magnetometry Survey was carried out by the officials of NIO from 25th October to 28th October 2012 and on 31st October 2012 (5days). On receiving the report on geographical survey conducted at wreck site off Candolim, beach, Goa from NIO, the report was submitted to Pr. Secretary (T) for perusal and onward submission to Secretary (Revenue) Chairman of Monitoring Committee, so as to fix a convenient date for fixing the meeting of “Monitoring Committee”. A copy of a report submitted by NIO is also forwarded to Revenue Department, Secretariat, Porvorim-Goa as the Pr. Secretary (Revenue /Chairman of Monitoring Committee) desires to convene a meeting of Monitoring Committee at short notice to discuss issues as regard to the report submitted by NIO, Dona Paula.


8. This Department has allotted 237 shacks for North & 106 shacks for South Goa and demarcation for North & South Goa has been done. Issue of shack permission to the successful shack allottees is in process.


9. As part of promotional activities in overseas markets, Department has participated in WTM –2012 held from 5th to 8th November, 2012 at London and also organized Roadshow in Capital Cities of Hungary, Budapest on 9th November 2012 & Czech Republic, Prague on 12th November, 2012.


10. As part of promotional activities in domestic markets, Department has participated at Holiday Expo Travel & Tourism Exhibition held from 2nd to 4th November 2012 at Vishakhapatnam and also participated at India International Travel Exhibition held from 14th to 20th November 2012 at New Delhi.
