Newspapers & Periodicals

There are 3 local English language newspapers in Goa 'The Navhind Times', 'The Gomantak Times' and 'Herald'. These are widely circulated and available in all tourist areas at news-stands and hotels. The coverage is mostly regional and local with a smattering of foreign news.

There are also a few vernacular newspapers in Marathi and Konkani such as 'Gomantak, 'Tarun Bharat' and 'Sunaparant'.

These concentrate more on the local news items and are read avidly by the local population in the rural areas.

Most national and foreign newspapers and magazines are also available at the main local news-stands, book stalls and hotels in the tourist areas.

Magazines like 'Goa Today', 'Gulab' are also published locally.

 

Radio & TV

Goa has a local station of the All India Radio (AIR) beaming programmes in a mix of English, Hindi, Marathi, Konkani and Portuguese. There are also a few commercial FM stations which broadcast music of all genres through the day.

Goa has a small Television Studio where a short local daily program is prepared to be beamed in the evening on weekdays via Doordarshan, the national television channel.

Besides Doordarshan, most major satellite channels are available easily via cable service and satellite dishes all over Goa. Most good hotels provide these channels such as Star TV, CNN, BBC, CNBC, Zee, HBO etc in your room.
