JK Tyre kart enduro race at Nuvem

Asia's first JK Tyre 24 hours kart enduro race will be hosted at Goa's Go-a-kart race track in Nuvem from April 19 to 20 from 5 p.m. to 5 p.m next day.

In fact, the 24-hour enduro event is coming to India for the first time and Goa gets the opportunity to host it primarily because the Nuvem race track is India's best and Goa being a popular tourist destination on the world map, stated Dr Sidney Moraes while addressing a press conference at Sernabatim today.

Dr Sidney informed that the event is popular in Dubai, Saudi Arabia and that India (Goa) gets the opportunity for the first time to host a major event of this magnitude as three international and eight national teams, including a Goan team will be seen in action at this 24-hour marathon event.

The event, which is also being sponsored by Goa Tourism Department, will see teams from Singapore, Sri Lanka and Malaysia in action while India will be represented by top notch teams from Mumbai, Kolhapur, Pune, Coimbatore and Goa, which will be led by Niaz Ahmed. Dr Sidney added that it was a matter of great pride that the event was being hosted in Goa, as normally the Nuvem track has in the past witnessed some high class sprint events of 10-20 laps, but edurance karting is something new that has entered the Indian scene.

"The aim is to succeed and make Goa a permanent venue for this event in India as we are targeting to make it a calendar event,' Dr Sidney added. Besides karting, the spectators, who would be visiting with their families at the weekend, will be kept entertained with lots of music and fun and live bands. Besides, food will be made available throughout the 24 hours at the venue making it a unique sporting event. Meanwhile, Mr Christopher Moraes informed that Amay Walawalkar, Rayomand Banajee, Audumber Hede and Niaz Ahmed will be the star Indian attractions at the event. Only three Indians in Narain Karthikeyan, Karun Chandok and Armaan Ibrahim have participated in the 24-hour kart enduro race outside India.

In the meanwhile, the organizing expenditure for the event has been budgeted at Rs 1 crore with each team fielding six riders, but there is no prize money for the event. "The idea behind the enduro race is to pick the best team that lasts the 24 hours duration and does maximum laps in that period,' Mr Christopher added. He said 4 stroke 9hp AEO1 model karts will be used for the race and the event will be televised in the form of capsule on TEN Sports. Besides, an insurance cover of Rs 1 crore for karters for injuries and accidents has also been provided, he added.

Meanwhile, Narian Kartikeyan, the first Indian and only the second Asian to participate in the Formula 3 championships and to be on the winning list, while offering his comments said: "I congratulate JK Tyre for having organized this mega non-stop 24-hr event in Goa. It will give the budding Indian stars a great platform to reach new heights through such international events." "Additionally, Goa track is a homologated track (approved by motorsport associations worldwide) and such kind of event will be a big boost to the tourism in the region," the Coimbatore-based ace added. He added that Goa has always been a great venue for karting and that he was enjoying the set up of this event, which comes to India for the first time. (courtesy navhindtimes.com)
