‘Calizz’ bags National Tourism award 2007-08 for Goa


Calizz “The Heart of Goa” has been selected by the Ministry of Tourism,Government of India for the prestigious National Tourism Award 2007-08 for “The Most Innovative/Unique Tourism Project” in the tourism sector, says the press release here. The National Tourism Awards given by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, are the most prestigious awards in the Tourism industry in India and are presented annually, in various categories. These awards are given for the exceptional performance and contribution to promote India as a tourist destination. The award ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

Chairman of the company Mr Laxmikant Prabhakar Kudchadkar received the award from Minister of External Affairs, Mr Pranab Mukherjee and Minister of Tourism and Culture, Ms Ambika Soni. Calizz is situated in Candolim “the nerve center of tourism activities in Goa”. Calizz which means Heart in Konkani is a perfect mélange of old and new traditions, beliefs and architectural influences; it is a veritable treasure trove of artefacts and antiques all belonging to the private collection of Mr Laxmikant Prabhakar Kudchadkar.

At Calizz there are refurbished colonial mansions which were built in the “Portuguese-era” in the year 1804 and even older houses which depicts the architectural styles of “The Pre Portuguese era”, Calizz explains the difference in the culture and customs of people of Goa. The mansions of the Portuguese-era are an example of intelligent conservations, using carefully selected furniture and antiquities, says the press release here. In “Pre-Portuguese houses’ the concept of no privacy has been reflected in the Hindu houses made up of only mud and the usage of one room for various household functions with the minimal usage of furniture, which is beautifully explained and shown at Calizz.
