Goa Tourism bags Safari India Award

Panaji: Goa Tourism has begun the tourist season with a bang! It has bagged the Safari India National Tourism Award for “Best State for Beach & Culture Tourism” for the year 2013. This award was given at a ceremony held in New Delhi last week and was received by the Deputy Resident Commissioner of Goa in Delhi, Ms Valsala Vijayan.

Mr Dilip Parulekar, Minister of Tourism, Government of Goa said, “It is a matter of great pride that the state of Goa is being recognized for beaches and culture; and to receive this from the editorial board of an established publication only makes our resolve stronger to make Goa the preferred destination among all tourists, all throughout the year.”

In order to develop its coastline, Goa Tourism is working towards making the beaches cleaner, safer, beautiful and more secure. This is a part of a bigger plan to boost tourism throughout the year in the state. Apart from making provision for fun, Goa Tourism has also taken steps to ensure that all its beaches are safe. To showcase its culture to the world, Goa Tourism has also promoted local cultural festivals like Shigmo, Bonderam, San Joao etc.

The Government of Goa has recently approved a proposal to develop infrastructure in some of the most visited beaches like Baga and Calangute. The foundation stone has already been laid in April and the project is likely to be completed within 180 working days, excluding monsoons. The aim of this project is to beautify and upgrade infrastructure near the famous Baga beach in North Goa. This includes better parking facilities, viewing tower, seaside pathways from Baga to adjacent Calangute beach, building of approach road from Baga to Arpora bridge, seating and landscaping etc.
