Goa draws up plan for beach safety

In its effort to make Goa beaches safe for tourists, tourism minister Francisco Pacheco has drawn up an ambitious beach safety management programme.

The minister said the tourism department had received three bids for the project, which would be first implemented on the busy stretches of Baga-Sinquerim in North Goa and Betalbatim-Benaulim in South Goa.

"We hope to make it operational during the next tourist season, beginning October this year," Pacheco said.

"Once an agency — which will have to give jobs to locals — is selected, the first task will be to identify accident-prone zones on beaches and provide end-to-end solutions," the minister said. (courtesy indiatimes.com)
